To those in the know, MIFW stands for Malaysia International Fashion Week and it is a fashion week organised by MIFA (Malaysia International Fashion Alliance, I think). It’s a yearly event that is normally held in Kuala Lumpur that culminates in a grand, week-long fashion carnival and the MIFA (Malaysia International Fashion Awards) Gala.
Why write about this 4months on? Well… 2 reasons:
- I can’t put up the STYLO fashion festival shots until later awaiting press selection & release.
- Just remembered that I have no blog articles here about MIFW ’07.
In all honesty, I had written a blog article about MIFW ’07 and it was written in anger; suffice to say, it did not say any nice things about MIFW ’07 at all and I have since removed and erased it. So… it’s 2008 and here’s MIFW ’07 in all its glory…
MIFW ’07 was held in KL Convention Center, one of the premium exhibition or show locations located right beside the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur; though not that well-planned it did manage to improve in many ways compared to MIFW ’06. It was a 4 full-days packed with fashion shows and special parties.
Among the designers showcased included the exciting young designers such as Adnan Hassan, Calvin Thoo, Edmund Ooi and Venie Tee; local labels such as Tangoo, Key Ng and Sorted; interesting collaborations between labels and designers such as Tiamo & Jonathan Cheng; and many more.
One of the more noteworthy events within MIFW ’07 was the Islamic Fashion Festival by Dato’ Raja Rezza Shah which I have written about earlier (Kuala Lumpur – Jakarta Islamic Fashion Festival 2007 ).
BTW, the lighting for MIFW ’07 was rather good with just a slight imbalance issue along the runway and the insufficiently lit end of runway; but when we compare it with the lighting at STYLO 08, it’s great.
STYLO ’08 has “left-green/right-magenta” lights with 2 huge spotlights.
Photographers LOVE bright lights but we hate it when they are spotlights because most of the spots are operated by those who learn and follow the Drunken Monkey Style. You want good pictures? Try to get rid of them spots.
So… you guys and gals who are organizing fashion shows, please get your lighting even and well-balanced-ya? We photographers can perform magic but there are things that even magic can’t fix.
Honestly, I am looking forward to a much better MIFW this year… last year’s media coverage was nearly completely absent. If you guys really wanna move the local fashion industry forward, let’s work harder on this~!
Time to drink for a better MIFW08 <hic>… <hic>… now… where is my film developer?

This unique blog is definitely awesome and besides amusing. I have picked up helluva useful things out of this source. I’d love to visit it again soon. Thanks!
