KL 09 Torch Run to start

Kuala Lumpur, 3rd August 2009 - Today we saw the launch ceremony of the Torch Run at KL Tower for KL 09, The 5th ASEAN Para Games to be held in Kuala Lumpur from the 15th-19th August 2009.
The Para Games torch run signifies the following of a tradition of the traditional Olympic movement and besides that, “It (the Torch Run) act as a P.R. event for the 5th ASEAN Para Games as well as to act as a reminder regarding the accessibility as well as equipment for sports for the less fortunate at all around Malaysia.”, says Malaysian Paralympics Council (MPM) president Datuk Zainal Abu Zarin.
The KL 09 Torch Run will start on the 4th of August 2009 in and around the historical city of Malacca and proceed to travel around many locations in Malaysia until it makes its way back to Dataran Keris at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil and eventually to light the competition torch at Stadium Putra at the opening ceremony of KL 09 on the 15th August 2009.
During the launch ceremony, the official 5th ASEAN Para Games merchandise was available for sale for the first time. The merchandise covers apparrels such as t-shirts, jackets; stationary, bags and other collectibles such as keychains, collar pins, drinking mugs and many more.
The merchandise will be available for purchase at the following hotels : Palace of Golden Horses, Summit Hotel, Pearl International Hotel and Residence Hotel from 12th to 19th August 2009.
