On The Star again

Featured

I swear I haven’t actually picked up a copy of The Star since the last when I found my work beside a piece about Eric Leong. Suprisingly, this morning I found The Star had a StarSpecial on Weddings, that piqued my interest and opened it up.

Was more interested to find out who advertised on this StarSpecial especially the photographers but imagine my surprise when I flipped a page and saw my own photos staring back at me.

It was a piece about Putrajaya Marriot and they have used my photos. Having shot so many assignments for my clients it is very difficult to keep track on who is gonna use what when… it is actually impossible as clients never inform us when our photographs are gonna be used as they are under no obligation to.

Everytime I spot my work published somewhere, it tells me that the client really found my work good enough to be used and that gives me so much satisfaction.

Note to Self : I should read newspapers more often. :P

Besides the interior shots, here was my favorite shot of the “tea ceremony” for that assignment… guess it was a bit too “wild” for normal usage but I still love it. :P

Mint Magazine Launch Party @ The Loft

Had some fun at the Mint Magazine Launch Party last Friday, lots of local Chinese celebs in attendance; there were games for those in attendance, prizes given away and performances by local celebs, Andrew Tan Say Aun and Daniel Lee Chieh Hun.

Jimmy & Winnie : The Colors

Yeah… this is long overdue; but here it is.

A set never-seen-before photos meant to show more of the “behind-the-scenes” of a typical Chinese wedding. BTW, these are just some of the selected photos, there are lot more of the bride and groom that I will post up later. Continue reading

Launch of New Site : mouyanseng.com

Alright… some of you might think I have lost my mind, especially those who know Chinese.

Why “mou-yan-seng”? which means “Inhuman” in Chinese. It is a concept or phrase that someone very dear to my heart addresses me by; obviously she used it in a non-insulting manner. I owe the idea and great many things about the current state of my photography to her.

Therefore, I’d like to decide this site design, idea and url to her. :-)

Right… enough sentimental BS…. back on topic.

As a professional photographer, we cannot let our ego, our vision or what or how we want to photograph influence what we provide our clients; in a way, we can’t even let our sense of self-respect or dignity get in the way of producing the best results for our clients. Where does this lead to?

We have to be “Inhuman” to do the best, abandoning our sense of “self” completely and just focussed on doing the best job possible without ANY other considerations.

So there you have it… my odd logic for using “mou-yan-seng” as a new theme for my new site.

Hope you guys like the new site.

Sunburst Kuala Lumpur 2009

Sunburst KL 2009 was a huge music festival in Malaysia, putting together 12-hours of live performances by local, regional and international artists featuring the sounds of rock, hip hop, R&B, pop, jazz, soul, and dance.

Held on the 21st March 2009 and just as the previous year at the Bukia Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort in Kuala Lumpur, it was a great, fun event.

The biggest attraction was of course KORN, an American Nu-Metal band… never heard of KORN? You should have. Blog Entry on KoRn.

Another huge crowd puller was the N.E.R.D. who performed the first time ever in Malaysia at Sunburst KL 2009.

Other bands or musicians that performed included Russian Winters, an Australian band; Cosmic Kitchen, from Dublin, Ireland; Nidji and Agrikulture from Jakarta, Indonesia; local bands such as Gerhana Ska Cinta, Estranged, Butterfingers and many many more.
